My journey in colour has taken me from textile design to pastels and collage. My work is mainly abstract – emphasising shapes, form and colour. For thirty years I’ve lived in Africa, the East, North America and Europe and this has influenced my work deeply. In India the explosion of colour everywhere had a profound effect and I designed fabrics for evening clothes using local pigments. I wove rugs using hand spun Karakul wool using dyes made from plants.
In South Africa and later in Canada I attached threads to materials for wall hangings and went on to design canvas work inspired by the dozens of fantastic stitches that have evolved over the centuries. Now I’m focusing on pastels and collage – often mixing the two. Colour and shapes continue to fascinate and excite me.
